We already know individual unhealthy lifestyle choices account for 50% or more of all health care costs, but how costly are unhealthy behaviors to workplace productivity? A newly released Dutch survey reveals unhealthy lifestyle choices lead to more frequent sick leave, longer durations of sick leave and lower levels of workplace productivity. According to our latest ROI study, successful health engagement is worth $443 per participant in annual health care and productivity savings to employers.  Weighed against total program cost, this equates to nearly a 3:1 return on investment after just two years of experience (vs. typical 3+ years). Are employees ready for a health care model that aligns personal behavior to cost?  Survey says€¦yes!  Take note of the recent employee opinions surveyed by the National Business Group on Health (NBGH). The vast majority of employees are more than ready for such a model.  Employees asked whether they agreed those individuals demonstrating healthy lifestyle behavior or participating in health improvement programs should be rewarded with reduced health benefit costs, only 10% disagreed.
